VOSH - community events

Throughout the year, VOSH members volunteer in the community. They are involved with several local charity walks, hold a blood drive at the school, and go to nursing and assisted living homes to adjust glasses and help out with daily activities held for the residents.
Optometry Olympics, April 20, 2008

IUOSA events - This event is the last event of the year, and gives students a chance to get outside, have fun, and get a break from studying. There are several track and field style events held and great prizes given out at the end for the participants.
Optic Cup, April 19, 2008

IUOSA event - This golf tournament is open to students, faculty and friends. Teams of 4 play a best ball tournament on a local 18 hole golf course. The winning team gets their names engraved on Optic Cup, which is displayed year round in the student lounge.
FCO Mission Trips

This year, 2 small groups of FCO students joined other volunteers to do mission work with optometry. The groups took trips to Guatamala and Honduras.
VOSH Mexico Trip

The VOSH trip involves about 30 VOSH students and additional Optometrists. It is a 1 week trip taken to the schools' clinic in Guanajuato, Mexico. Students help the clinic staff perform between 2,500 and 3,000 eye exams and free glasses are given out.

This event is thrown by the 3rd years for the 2nd years. It is a celebration of the 2nd year students passing competency exams. The 2nd years form teams with clever optometry names and are given clues that send them all over town.
White Coat Ceremony, Feb. 16, 2008

Once 2nd year students pass competency exams, they are declared interns and cloaked with their white coats at a ceremony involving faculty, staff and family.

IUOSA event - This is a favorite school event! The Eyeball (Optometry Prom) is a formal dinner and dance that is one of the best times all year. Each class reveals their choice for favorite student and faculty instructors and the 3rd year students debut their class video. The dinner is wonderful and the dance goes all night long.
Halloween Party, Oct. 27, 2007

VOSH event - Students come up with great costumes for the Halloween party. It is a night of socializing, dancing and prizes.
1st Annual VisionWalk, Oct. 13, 2007

IUOSA/VOSH event - VISIONWALK was held for the first time this year by the School for the Blind in Indianapolis. It is a great cause that the optometry school will continue to be involved with. Optometry students participated as walkers who raised money for the event and volunteers who helped the event run smoothly.
